What's left on PEI
Not much for heat pumps. On April 15, 2026 the province ended efficiencyPEI's rebates on mini-split and central heat pumps, and stopped taking applications for the free heat pump program (and its delivery of the federal oil-to-heat-pump program). Households already approved for a free heat pump are still being installed.
If you bought a heat pump before April 15, 2026, you can still claim the rebate within 12 months of buying it. Maritime Electric doesn't offer heat pump rebates either.
PEI hasn't said whether any of this is coming back. We couldn't open the province's pages on Oct 19, 2026 (they block automated checks), so the dates above come from the government's own page text in search results. They line up with CBC's coverage of the April budget.
How the federal rebate fits
With nothing provincial left, the National Heat Pump Rebate is the whole picture here: $2,000 for most homeowners, or up to $10,000 if your household is below the median income. The federal government says it launches in 2027 and hasn't published the income test or a start date. It only names cold-climate air-source heat pumps, so ground-source may not count.
If you're putting a heat pump in anyway, keep every receipt. The federal government hasn't said whether installs done before launch will count. What we know about the federal rebate
